Fr Brian’s new book ‘And Catch the Heart off Guard’ is now available. Price £11 or €13. Thankfully it is a bestseller throughout Ireland. All proceeds got to Refugee Agencies. It will make a superb present coming up to Christmas.

Here is an extract from the book. Somebody once said that the hardest part of letting go is realising that there wasn’t much to hold on to. ‘If I’m holding on to something with both hands, I am unable either to give or receive.’ We don’t have much and therefore we want to hold on to the little we have. Jesus is saying, ‘let go, lose control, commit yourself to love’ and then you will understand the power of God working in your life.”

Christmas Prayer:Lord, bless us with childhood faith this Christmas. May we recognise you, our God, as a little child born in humble circumstances; and may we be as excited this Christmas as we were when we were children in pyjamas, unable to sleep, and bursting with joy. Give us the spirit of Christmas which is peace; the heart of Christmas which is love; and may our families have gladness and hope in abundance. May we, deep in our souls, jump up in the air, whirl round and bury our heads in a cushion, because the baby is God, our Saviour.
