Saturday is the feast of St Gabriel, patron saint of The Graan. St Gabriel was born at Assisi in 1838. He always had great devotion to Mary and that led him to join the Passionists, where he was given the name Gabriel. He lived a mere five years in the Passionists - for four of those he was constantly ill. He died in 1862, while still a student. He was beatified by Pope Pius X on May 31st 1908 and was canonised by Pope Benedict XV on May 3rd 1920. He is the patron of youth. There will be a general blessing with St Gabriel’s relic after the 6.30pm Mass on Saturday evening.
