Easter:The American orator Clarence W. Hall once preached: ‘If Easter says anything to us today it is this: “You can put Truth in a grave but it won’t stay there. You can nail it to a cross and shut it in a tomb but it will rise.”’Easter then is not a time for dusty old dogmas or arguments but is an opportunity for all of us to fan the ashes of hope, to banish doubts and to rejoice in living life to the full. The saying ‘the glory of God is a human being fully alive’ is attributed to the church father, Irenaeus. What he actually said is: ‘The glory of God is the living human being.’ Either way, the sense of our place in the mystery of God is a cause for joy.”
