Today is the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Catholic Schools Week begins today.

1st Feb - St Brigid’s Day - Philip Mc Grade has made and donated hundreds of St Brigid’s Crosses to us for many years. Philip has once again made St Brigid’s Crosses and they are on sale at our shop at the usual price of £1. The money will be donated to St Vincent de Paul.

St Brigid: Had a great love for the poor. Legend has it she often gave away her family’s food to those in need. When her father protested she replied, “Christ dwells in every creature.”

There was an old pagan chieftain who was dying. He had never heard of Jesus. The floor of his room was covered with rushes and when Brigid went into the room she took some of the rushes and began to make a cross. She told him about God and his love for us and how his son died on a cross. As a result he converted to the faith and died a happy man. Tradition says that those who have a St Brigid’s cross in their home will be blessed through her prayers with the protection of Christ.

Thursday 2nd is the feast of The Presentation of the Lord. Candles will be blessed after the 8pm Mass on that night. There are candles on sale in our shop.
