THE GRAAN WEEKLY BULLETIN

3rd December 2017

Sunday Collection: The Collection came to £1405. The Development Collection came to £578. Thank you for your generous contributions as always. There will be a Development Collection taken up next Sunday 10th Dec.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. As you can see we have our Advent wreath on the sanctuary and a simple Jesse tree. The symbol of the Jesse Tree traces the roots of Jesus’ people from creation to his birth. “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse and a branch shall grow out of its roots.” (Isaiah). Each character on this ‘family tree’ of Jesus is represented by a symbol which recalls a Bible story about that person. An additional group of people will be added each Sunday during Advent, with the symbol of Jesus to be placed at the top on Christmas Day. The tree invites us to remember the real meaning of Christmas.   It’s time to prepare for the coming of Christ among us in this Christmas season.

The Advent Wreathis circular to express the circle of life, beginning with God as creator and ending with God as our final destiny. The circle also represents Christ who came in the past, comes every day through grace, and will come again in final glory. Evergreen leaves show the unfailing love of God and our constant hope. The four outer candles are for the weeks of preparation before lighting the white candle at the centre for the birth of the Saviour.
