Today, Palm Sunday the beginning of Holy Week., palms are blessed before each Mass today and you are invited to come up and take a small piece of the palm to be kept in your house during the year.

This week is Holy Week. It is the most important week of the Christian calendar. Lent ends on Holy Thursday and we begin on that evening the Easter Triduum, (from Thursday evening to Sunday evening). These three days of prayer are the culmination of the entire liturgical year.

Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Paschal Feast on HolySaturday night make up one day when we celebrate the central focus of our faith - the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We invite you to spend as much time as you are able in our Passionist Church here at the Graan to re-live with us these central tenets of our faith.

Holy Thursday:

There will be two Masses on this day. The first Mass will be at 5:00 pm. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be at 7:30 pm which will include Washing of Feet and the Priests and Eucharistic Ministers will renew their commitment to serve God’s people during this Eucharist. There will be a gentle, quiet Holy Hour on Holy Thursday night from 9:00 pm to 10 pm in response to the Lord’s request “Can you not spend one hour with me?” (Mark 14:38)

Good Friday: This is a day of fast and abstinence. The Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will begin at 3pm.

There will be a Prayer Service 7:30pm on the theme: “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”  Veneration of the Cross will take place immediately after this Prayer Service

The Easter Vigil will begin at 8.50 pm on Holy Saturday. Note that the time has changed from last year.  This Vigil is the heart of our liturgy, of our Lent and Eastertime of the sacraments of initiating, healing, ordaining to ministry, marrying.  St. Augustine called this holy night - the “mother of all vigils”. It has four parts (1) Light (2) Word (3) Water (4) Eucharist.
