Weekly Bulletin 5th January 2020

Sunday Collection last SundayCame to £1750. Thank you as always for your generous contributions.

There will be a Development Collection taken up next Sunday 12th January.

Today is the Second Sunday after Christmas:We read the condensed version of John’s Gospel at today’s Mass. Christ is not a light that dazzles: he is the “true light” Motorists driving at night with full headlights only blind one another. The true light on the other hand, can be filtered; it blinds nobody, but gently enters into people’s beings; it penetrates their joys and sorrows, their occupations, their daily round – and also their celebrations

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. It is a holy day of obligation. The word “Epiphany’ means “manifestation” Jesus is shown as Saviour not only of one particular nation but He is Saviour of the whole world. The magi, who are the representatives of the neighbouring pagan religions are also the first fruits of the nations, who welcome the good news of salvation brought through the Incarnation.

Masses for the feast day are at 10.30am, 12noon & 8pm.

Antiphon for Evening Prayer on the Feast of the Epiphany: “Three wonders mark this day we celebrate: today the star led the Magi to the manger; today water has changed into wine at the marriage feast; today Christ desired to be baptised by John in the river Jordan to bring us salvation Alleluia”

Prayer: Most merciful Father with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. Throughout every moment of this New Year keep me united with the Lord Jesus Christ so that I might live fully alive in the power of the eternal day of your son’s resurrection. I ask through Christ our Lord, Amen. (Fr Peter Cameron O.P)
